Colin Babcock is a trombonist, composer, improvisor, and teacher from Pickerington, Ohio based in New York City. He specializes in Contemporary Classical/New Music, Chamber Music, and Improvisation, but can often be found exploring other genres including Jazz, Pop, and Orchestral. Colin’s compositions include original works and arrangements for brass ensembles, improvisation based pieces, solo repertoire, and electronic music. Colin released “Circle” in 2020 and “Concrete” in 2024, albums of original compositions and improvisations for trombone and electronics. He is one of the Founders of The New York City Brass Choir and Brownstone Brass Quintet. In NYC, Colin has established a wide-reaching freelance career, performing with New York Composers Orchestra, at The New York City Electro-Acoustic Music Festival, So Wrong It’s Right, William Parker’s Little Huey’s Pocket Watch, The Colin Babcock Quintet, The Real Stormin’ Norman Band, The Mostly Modern Festival in The Netherlands, Brass By the Slice, The Shrine Big Band, the Bronx Connection Latin Jazz Big Band, and much more. In 2021 Colin began teaching with Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, bringing music education to students all across the city. He graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2020, studying Trombone Performance with M. Dee Stewart, Dr. Denson Paul Pollard, and Peter Ellefson.
